No, not frosted window panes and painted candy canes on the tree, I am talking about Dirty Sock Syndrome (DSS). You turn on the heat and the smell of gym socks wafts through the house, over powering even the gingerbread just out of the oven.
DSS is caused by bacteria roasting on your evap coil, not exactly the makings of a holiday song. Don't cry in your eggnog just yet, there are several things you can do to help combat it. First, if you have a new (or newer) coil, call us to get a quote to dip coat it. Our proprietary coating causes water to drain away, minimizing the growth of the bacteria in the first place. We have the best results in the industry in eliminating Dirty Sock Syndrome.
If you can't spare your warm air while we coat your coil, consider trying our Bronz-Glow Evap-Zap foam coil cleaner when we launch it in our online store after January 1st. Simply turn off the power to your HVAC unit, spray Evap Zap uniformly onto your Evaporator Coil and turn the unit back on. The cleaner comes with an extended tube to help coat those hard-to-reach areas. The cleaner is self-rinsing on the cooling cycle and will kill any bacteria that are stealing your holiday joy. (If you are running your heat continuously, you will need to rinse away the cleaner.)
Lastly, if your unit is uncoated and you have no intention of coating it soon, call your HVAC contractor to ask about installing a UV light. They are costly and require frequent bulb changes and only eliminate some of the bacteria, not all of it. However, there is no substitute for a Bronz-Glow coated coil in eliminating those humbugs. Call us today for more information or if you just cannot wait until then to try our Evap Zap.

And this song of mine in three-quarter time Wishes you and yours the same thing too."
