Dirty Sock Syndrome (DSS)
What is Dirty Sock Syndrome?
“Dirty sock syndrome” occurs when there is an overgrowth of bacteria within your HVAC system creating a foul odor that occurs when the heat is on and warms the microorganisms on the evaporator coil. Since the coils are damp and operate below the temperature to kill bacteria, (most heat pumps only reach 120-130 degrees.) this creates the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive. As they multiply and air is circulated throughout your system, the odor is carried and dispersed throughout your home. You will notice a dirty musty smell, similar to a locker room smell, especially when the heat blows.
Bronz-Glow's Husky Coil Coating is a rubber poly-elastomer coating that completely coats the surface of the coil. Since rubber doesn't absorb moisture, the water doesn't accumulate. Our proprietary coating has had tremendous success in combating DSS, even on stubborn cases.
