Q.Can you effectively field coat
equipment already installed?
A. Yes. We always advocate dip coating whenever possible,
because it is the most effective method, and has none of the
limitations field-coating has. However, there are times when
equipment must be coated after it’s installed or where
there is just not enough time to coat the unit before the
scheduled installation (dip-coating generally requires at
least 3-7 days).
There are some basic rules to remember when spray coating
existing equipment in the field. First Bronz-Glow does NOT
recommend spray coating a coil over 3 rows deep. If you spray-coat
a unit with more rows than this, chances are the center rows
will not get completely coated.
You CAN field-coat equipment that has been in operation for
up to 6 months or longer, even if it shows signs of deterioration,
within reason. Once cleaned and coated, the coating can aid
in extending the coil life from this time forward. However,
what has been lost in operating efficiency due to exterior
corrosion up to that point cannot be replenished with the
coil coating.
Q. When is it too late to coat coils
that are already in operation (in use)?
A. When you’ve lost the integral metal connection
between the aluminum fin and copper tubes of commonly constructed
coils. This is where heat transfer takes place. There is
no
way to repair this bond. However, you may find that your
coils are corroded on the lower rows but not at the top.
In these
cases use your best judgment. Your biggest goal is to keep
efficiency at a standard level and to extend equipment life.
Additional cleaning may be required for coils excessively
corroded in an effort to get the best coating surface for
the Husky Green Fin Kit.
Q. Is there a limit to the size
or types of units Bronz-Glow can coat in the field?
A. No. Factory Field Services and Florida dip
coating facility has coated equipment ranging in size from ¾-ton
window units to 420-ton air-cooled chillers in the field.
We have even spray-coated air handlers as well as the cabinets,
enclosures, ducting, and insulation for air conditioning systems.
Bronz-Glow has field-coated units from every manufacturer,
including off brands. This includes Trane, American Standard,
Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Day & Night, Witt, Pomona Air,
Liebert, York, Luxaire, Armstrong, Lennox, Bard, Hill Phoenix,
Hussmann, Dunham-Bush, McQuay, and many more.
Q.How far will Bronz-Glow travel
to do coating work? I have a unit in California. Can you coat
it at the jobsite location?
A. Bronz-Glow’s Factory Field Coating Services
Group has performed coating work in many of the domestic
United
States as well as some international countries. We will travel
anywhere in the U.S. where the customer wants us to perform
the work. We also have licensed and factory-certified applicators
in various areas of the U.S. and internationally, that may
reduce travel time to the job site and overall expense.

Q.What other companies do field-coating
(onsite coating)?
A. Technically, anyone who can use an aerosol spray
can or apply a paint product can present themselves as a “field
applicator.” They may not be good or reputable, but
there are many thousands selling their services. When it comes
to most field applicators, our recommendation is “Buyer
Beware!”
Bronz-Glow has been performing professional field-coating
services since 1983. When Bronz-Glow developed its coating
process, most of his projects had to be field-processed simply
because there was no dip-processing facility available at
that time. Although not widely known, Bronz-Glow was the original
U.S. field-coating provider. Today, we have more than 20 years
of experience and a product that has proven itself in laboratory
tests as well as in the field. Bronz-Glow applies its own
formulated coatings. Most competitors apply
paint products manufactured by paint firms. Bronz-Glow’s
Factory Field Services is equipped and trained to travel most
anywhere to perform warranted field coating services.
Q.If I apply the Bronz-Glow coating
in the field do I need to be concerned about overspray?
A. You always need to be careful, which is why it better to
use certified and experienced applicators. When coating outdoors,
you must always be aware of your surroundings: vehicles, plants,
pools, air intake fans, wind, and much, much more. We always
take all of these concerns into account before starting any
field-application job.
When coating indoors it is even more critical: Besides protecting
the surroundings, you must also be aware of fumes and odors.
Have continuous air movement exhausting fumes and eliminating
oders and explosion potential. Bronz-Glow trains our applicators
to take all of these factors into account before starting
any field application project.
Q.How can I become a licensed Bronz-Glow
field-applicator, and begin performing these field-coating
services for my customers?
A. Visit the Licensee link and request more information
on becoming a licensee with Bronz-Glow.
