Regional Bell Facility On Atlantic Coast
Back in September of 1994, BellSouth needed to replace some
badly-corroded hvac/r units at their Crescent Beach location,
near St. Augustine in northeast Florida. The word "beach"
only gives a hint at the corrosion problems they faced. Their
location is less than 100 yards from the ocean,
on the beach side of highway A1A (Florida's old "beach road"
down the east coast, parallel to the Atlantic Ocean). Not
wanting their new Carrier units to deteriorate as quickly
as their previous equipment, they decided to try protecting
them with Bronz-Glow coatings.
Recently, we took some pictures of these now 10 year-old
units which we had coated back in 1994. The units are still
in excellent working condition, the coils are intact and have
not deteriorated even 10 years later. In 1994,
we dip-processed these coils with Bronz-Glow F-865 (called Husky Coil Coat at the time)
in our factory, and with a little of touch-up, they should
provide a few more years of service for BellSouth.
Getting 10 + years of active life from air conditioning units
this close to the ocean is unheard of. This explains why BellSouth
continues to specify Bronz-Glow for their exposed coils today.
Their most recently replaced unit is a Dunham-Bush, which
we coated in January 2004 for their Hutchinson Island facility
in south Florida. The coils were dip coated in Bronz-Glow
600 Series, while all cabinet components were coated using
Bronz-Glow 815-S Clear Cabinet Coat.
