of Bronz-Glow Husky Green Fin Coil Protector
Independent Salt Spray Test of Bronz-Glow Husky Green Fin Coil
Protector
The a/c equipment
manufacturer embarked on a salt spray evaluation program. They
evaluated condenser coil coatings from several other vendors.
Upon conclusion of the testing Bronz-Glow was informed of how
its coating performed.
The test was based on
ASTM B117.85. The test consisted of continuous exposure of the
coated coils to 5% salt solution at 95° F for 6,300 hours (37.5
weeks). The coils were removed from the salt chamber to dry on
the weekends. The initial test duration was scheduled for 3,000
hours at the end of which the test would have been terminated.
Testing of Bronz-Glow Coil Coat, at Bronz-Glow’s request, went
beyond this target stop period of 3,000 hours to 6,300 hours.
The coated coils were
of 1,2 and 3 row enhanced fin coils with 16 fins per inch. The
fins were made from 0.0047 aluminum materials, the hairpins were
made from .012 wall rifled copper tubing, and the end-sheets
were made from galvanized steel.
After 6,300 hours of
evaluation, the Bronz-Glow Coil Coat demonstrated excellent
resistance to general and galvanic corrosion. Upon close
inspection the fin and tube area were in excellent condition
however, there were some small bubbles beginning to appear on
the galvanized end-sheet. This is considered minimal based on
the longevity of the test and that no corrosion was found at the
junction of the aluminum fin and copper tube or galvanic
intersect.
